a new pedicure saturday, a broken toe sunday

broken_toe.JPG

you already know how prone i am to foot injuries. it's actually kind of amazing that i've managed to go seven whole months without breaking anything down there.

so i've got another broken toe. i wish i could conjure up some adventurous story about how it happened, but the truth is i stubbed it on a chair in the den as i was reaching to straighten a lamp shade.

i knew it was broken immediately. i didn't holler, but ray heard me breathing deeply through my teeth and asked if i was ok. "i broke another toe!" i sounded calm despite the sharp pain. i'm used to this.

my propensity for broken toes is something ray doesn't understand... he says he's never broken a toe. the man has broken his back in a parachuting accident, yet he's never broken a toe. unbelievable.

anyway, i put an ice pack on it for a 15 minutes or so, but it's swelling up and becoming discolored anyway. tomorrow is gonna be a bitch. i'm glad it's flip-flop weather.

i won't be going for my morning walk for a few days, though.

klutz.

Owwwwweee! So sorry to hear.

Maybe if you outfitted the whole house in "space-age" furniture -- the kind where everything's supported on a pedastal like in the Jetsons?

Ouch. That stinks. I hope you feel better soon! How long does a broken toe take to heal?

Ow. So sorry about your injury. I broke a bone in my foot once (fifth metatarsal), so I feel your pain (and your swelling and discoloration). But you do have adorable little toes!

OWWWWWEEEE! Take care!

What makes it broken instead of sprained, or stubbed. Is the level of pain that much more?

And, I sure hope the pain, discoloration and other things fade. Broken anything, anywhere are not good.

the discoloration is worse today. i was going to post another photo, then decided to spare you guys the queasiness.

marie-
i think in a few days i should be back to walking normally. i have the toe taped to the one next to it, and that usually speeds healing.

becky-
when i stub my toes, the pain usually subsides pretty quickly... like, after a 10 or 15 seconds of hopping around, swearing, the sharp pain goes away. when i break one, i have to sit down (no hopping!) and concentrate on breathing the pain away. i feel incapacitated for several minutes, and then have trouble putting weight on the foot for a couple of days.

whee.

I know it won't help the pain, but your toenails look AWESOME.

I am sorry about your toe. I got that weak-knees feeling when I read your entry...

That soulds hella-awful. I hope the pain leaves, and soon. It really does make my stomach churn a little.

And this little piggy went *snap*.

The only bones I've broken in my life are my little toes. Each one, separately. Hurts like hell ands garners no real sympathy from others. So you have mine.

Ooh. Sorry to hear about your toe. Reading about your latest foot-related mishap makes me wish that you were my girlfriend.

You see, I have a bit of a foot fetish. (OK. OK. It's more like a major fetish.) And it's further, uh, complicated (for lack of the proper word) by the fact that females with foot injuries are quite the turn-on. (You know. I can't explain it. I didn't ask for this fetish. And I have no idea why injured feet, toes, and ankles turn me on.)

Anyway... I'm really sorry that you hurt yourself again. (Pain isn't a turn-on.) But if you were my gal, I'd be treating you and your toe *right*

I feel your pain. My middle toe is also broken. I am just starting to walk properly again, but i still look crippled, which is a shame. The worst part is that i have this big dance thing for school next week, plus all these rehearsels so im so eager for it to get better! I hope your toe also heals quickly!

I broke my middle toe about 6 weeks ago and am still limping which is very annoying when I want to put on a high heel to go out
I was hoping someone might be able to tell me how much longer it is going to take for the limping and aching to go away
Walking round the house in bare feet isn,t to bad but I have to wear a shoe to go outside

Hi to all out there with fractured toes. I feel better now knowing I am not the only on to run into a door frame!! You all have my utmost sympathy as it is so painful. I am going for another x-ray to-morrow, hoping it is still in alignment after having a closed reduction under local and buddy taping. Have kept it elevated and iced and used tens machine but if it is down for a short time I am in severe pain. I have nearly had an accident on the crutchers!
