perhaps you remember me expressing my desperation to be called for jury duty.

i'm so excited!

I had jury service for the first time ever a few months ago. It was kind of a letdown. (That's not the word I want. Have you ever heard of "tip-of-the-tongue" syndrome? It's when you know you know a word, but your brain won't access it? Yeah. I have that. I am sure it's epilepsy related)
Enjoy the Charles Kuralt video.
Posted by: lastewie at June 12, 2006 02:58 PMCongratulations! I've only been called once. In Orange Co., they give you a number to call the day before to see if you actually need to show up, and I didn't. So I missed the Charles Kuralt video that Stewpants refers to. A pity, for who better to inform us North Carolinians of our civic duty in an avuncular way than the late Mr. Kuralt?
Posted by: Jerry at June 12, 2006 04:52 PMDon't get too excited yet....I was so bummed when they didn't select me for a case. Good luck!
Posted by: lainey at June 12, 2006 05:18 PMIf it's a criminal case, don't act too smart or they'll dump yer ass. I think it's OK to appear smart if it's a civil case, however.
Posted by: lisa b at June 12, 2006 05:25 PMWell, I acted smart and I got chosen. However, from other people I've talked to and things I've read, my jury experience (about 10 years ago, in another state) was a bit of a special case, I think: we were the last hope of getting a child molester behind bars. I think they wanted the smartest, nitpickiest jury they could get, and that's what they got.
Good luck Xta. Hope it's an interesting case and that you are empaneled.
Posted by: minty at June 12, 2006 08:03 PMBeing on Jury duty would involve driving downtown and I don't know how to get anywhere downtown so that would mean that I would have an anxiety attack so then i would freak out and start crying........AND then I would not get picked.
Because I would be the sobbing crying juror.
I JUST had the same experience as Jerry - I called the number the day before, and was politely excused by a recorded message.
Posted by: pinky at June 12, 2006 09:55 PMCan you just not fight it?
They have that number in Durham, too. I missed the bullet twice. Third time, I got to go but sat around for a long long time (~2:30) before we were told that it just wasn't going to happen.
Bring a good book and/or some stuff to do!
Posted by: Phil at June 12, 2006 10:47 PMI hope it is something exciting. Something similar to the Mary Winkler case or maybe a teacher/student sex scandal.
Posted by: Matt at June 13, 2006 10:15 AMIt's very very easy to get out of if you want. Just start blabbing that you know about and would look forward to using Jury Nullification.

Congratulations! Even I've been called, and I'm not even a US citizen. Luckily there's a little box to check that says "I'm not a US citizen."
