last year i hated being in the pool by myself. i got lonely. i was bored.
this year, it's my favorite thing. at 10 or 11pm i light the ring of tiki torches around the pool's perimeter and swim by myself. floating. jumping. gliding. flipping. in the dark. no one else around. no talking. just me and the water.
Posted by xta at July 18, 2006 10:58 PM | TrackBackwhen i lived with ian in that apartment complex in carrboro, i used to swim at night in the pool there. all alone, in the dark. it was very peaceful, if buggy (but only when i surfaced!).
Posted by: alex at July 19, 2006 08:43 AMnext time I find a snake in the house I'll try not to ruin your swim by telling you about it while you're still in the pool.
Posted by: ray mood-changer ubinger at July 19, 2006 04:13 PMYum. And I think that comment above just might be spam, given all of the letters that just don't make sense. Either that, or I have a rare brain disorder that filters words into unintelligible mush.

Posted by: christa at July 20, 2006 09:19 AMNight swimming. A fine bit of music in addition to a fine idea.
Wow -- your pool is deep enough that you can do flips? Way cool.
I guess I'll start my summer swimming in August when I move to my next place where there's a pool (though it closes at 9-ish).
Posted by: Phil at July 20, 2006 11:54 PMI was thinking about you the other day. I've been adding dried cranberries to my salads lately and I like it. Oh - and a little mint and cilantro adds zip too.
Enjoy!
Posted by: John Boy at July 21, 2006 02:20 AMwell, in the week since i posted this little dreamy scenario i'm sad to report that the pool got attacked by a vicious strain of algae. i let the water temperature get too warm (90 degrees!) which causes the chlorine to dissipate really quickly. i didn't swim for two days (due to rain and other conflicts) and in that short span of time the water turned green and mucky. bleah!
we've been battling the slime over the last 5 days or so. we're winning, but it's a slow process. and i just don't feel myself... i NEED the late night swim! i miss it!!!
Posted by: christa at July 26, 2006 12:56 AMDid you ever have to buy some kind of swim vac for maintaining your pool? Just curious.
Posted by: Phil at July 26, 2006 01:29 PMthe pool came with a vaccum head & pole which attaches to a garden hose. we use it all the time... it works great!
